GSS Council Gets Slammed
By Rob Breton
Lucio Munoz, a graduate student from the Faculty of Forestry, in a letter to GSS President Roger Miller, condemned the GSS Council for their "refusal to support" his "letter in support of legal action" addressed to the BC Court of Appeals. He has allowed The Graduate to examine the letter to Miller and will be writing an open letter next month to us and The Ubyssey in order to articulate his claim of "systematic abused endured at UBC". He has also written to the Senate, President Piper, and the Board of Governors. Mr. Munoz argues that he suffered "disrespect and biased treatment from UBC officials [and that]…and that under extreme faculty induced system failure their self-interest [led] to protect the reputation of the university, which [was] coupled with protecting the reputation of the abusers." He is now pursuing legal means to "protect [him] self and [his] academic goals." Munoz charges Council with contradicting "GSS purposes to protect the rights of all graduate students at UBC". In a letter to Miller he expressed anger with Council for "putting conditions" on and playing "wait and see" with his case.
